Admiral of the Fleet Sir John West GCB (28 July 1774 – 18 April 1862) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth.
West joined the Royal Navy in 1788.[1] Promoted to Lieutenant in 1793, he fought in HMS Royal George in the Glorious First of June Naval Battle in 1794 and the Battle of Groix in 1795 during the French Revolutionary Wars.[1] He commanded HMS Excellent from 1807 and then HMS Sultan from 1809.[1] He was appointed Commander-in-Chief, Plymouth in 1845.[1]
He died at Eaton Square in London and is buried at West Wickham in Bromley.[2]
In 1817 he married Harriett Adams; they had three sons and two daughters.[1]
